Kiama Council has teamed up with Kiama Community College to provide the NEXT GEN Work Ready package to help local young people get local jobs.
Programs teach the following industry skills:
Barista/Cafe skills programs
Our NEXT GEN Barista and Cafe Skills programs give young people the training for local hospitality jobs.
Barista training over 2 hours provides basic skills and knowledge to make a great coffee.
Alternatively, you can complete the Café Skills training over 4 days during the October school holidays. It provides the opportunity to achieve accreditation in:
- customer service
- hygiene, and
- food preparation for work in cafes and restaurants.
Digital skills program
Our NEXT GEN Digital program is available to Kiama High School students studying:
- Information Technology
- Business Studies.
It provides students with digital technology, graphic design and creative skills, a taste of working as a digital marketing consultant.
Students work under the guidance of Glenn Haworth who has built his own successful and internationally recognised e-commerce store.
Local businesses can also take advantage of this opportunity to enhance their digital presence whilst supporting local high school students by signing up for a low-cost digital media package.
Participants in all 3 programs can take part in an employability boot camp.
The bootcamp covers:
- personal presentation
- communication skills, and
- interview techniques.
Young local entrepreneurs and business leaders also attend to provide advice and inspiration to pursue local job opportunities.
The NEXT GEN initiative received support from the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.
